All PK3-6th grade classes have music class once a week. They are saturated with music from a broad spectrum of time periods, styles, and ways to express themselves through music. Students are encouraged to find their own love for music. Each child is educated in the fundamentals of music and gains performance knowledge, experience, and confidence. One of the highlights of the year is the Elementary Christmas show. It involves first through third grade students. Every third grader has a speaking part and auditions for major acting roles. There are also solo opportunities.
In addition to that production, each grade level at Goodpasture Elementary has a performance opportunity. PK students hold a Thanksgiving show and a musical graduation show. Kindergarten students end their year with a big musical production at their graduation. First grade students perform a Japanese show to end their unit on Japan. Second and third grade honor their mothers with the second grade doing a Mother’s Day program and third grade performing the Spring Fling Fashion Show. Valentine’s Day is celebrated with the fourth grade performing classic love songs. The fifth grade enhances their music and history skills with an American History musical written just for them. Every child selects performing interests, (singing, acting, dancing) and is given and opportunity to showcase that in this play. Every child speaks and perfects their public speaking skills. Sixth graders are given the opportunity to join band and chorus where they are faced with many concert opportunities.
Our Middle School choruses host a Middle School Christian Choral Festival every year. Middle school students also have the opportunity to be in the middle school musical productions held every other year. Elementary and middle school students can also opt to take piano or voice instruction from teachers on campus. Talent shows, performance field trips and visiting performers also enhance our student’s exposure to music.
