High School Visual Arts - Art I

The Goodpasture High School Art I program is designed to give all students the knowledge and competence they need to produce work in a wide variety of media including graphite, colored pencil, acrylic painting, sculpture, and clay. The classes are designed to ensure that each student will learn the necessary fundamental skills to produce quality, professional work. In addition to the regular “hands-on” projects, a thorough study of art history and appreciation is offered to all first-year students. The elements and principles of design are presented in several ways throughout the year allowing students to utilize their critical thinking skills. In addition, every other year, all high school art students have the opportunity to travel to New York City for art education, entertainment, and shopping.  The group makes several stops on their exciting three-day trip including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Art Museum and a couple of Broadway shows. The next New York trip is scheduled for winter 2009.
