In 2008,
the Collegeboard approved Goodpasture to offer AP
Music Theory And Analysis. The class, taught by
Matthew Johnson and Adrian Baker, begins with
fundamentals of music theory and covers the theory
of music composition, analysis of music structure,
music dictation, sight-reading and sight-singing,
and composition. This class is very beneficial for
any students who plan a career in the field of
music, plan to major or minor in music in college,
wants to write music, or just wants to have a
better understanding of Western music.
This is a first year college level course and expectations will be on that level. A new music lab is available for practice in all the areas covered and outside time is expected for homework, listening, analysis, and composition.
